Who You Are
You are an expert Open Source Developer with a strong track record of contributing to and integrating features into high-impact open source projects. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with maintainers and contributors to improve and extend widely adopted projects.
You are comfortable engaging in technical discussions with upstream communities, presenting new ideas. You have superb communication skills that allow you to advocate for new features, write clear technical documentation, and foster engagement across multiple teams and organizations. You are not afraid to take ownership of complicated integration efforts, ensuring that new capabilities align with community best practices and project goals. Your contributions will help shape the future of open source networking and security.
What You Will Do
You will work alongside some of the most talented and driven individuals in the industry to drive the evolution of Cisco's Hypershield solution. You will identify key areas for improvement, contribute upstream to critical open source projects, and advocate for new features that enhance performance, scalability, and security. You will collaborate closely with developers, maintainers, and project stakeholders, ensuring seamless integration of new capabilities into widely adopted software.
You will help define technical strategies, engage with open source communities, and drive consensus on architectural decisions. Working in an agile, startup-style environment with minimal bureaucracy, you will take ownership of complex challenges, contributing code, documentation, and design discussions that shape the future of security at Cisco.
Minimum Requirements:
* BS/BA degree
* 5+ years eBPF & Linux Systems Development - experience with eBPF, Linux networking, kernel internals, and performance tuning
* 3+ years of Go Programming - Experience developing production-grade applications in Go, particularly in networking, security, or distributed systems.
* 5+ years of Open Source Development Experience - track record of contributing to and integrating features into upstream open source projects, especially those with large user bases.
* Network Security & Observability - Demonstrable understanding of network security principles, intrusion detection, traffic analysis, and observability tooling.
Desired Qualities:
* Expertise in Kubernetes & Distributed Applications - Deep understanding of Kubernetes architecture, service meshes, and cloud-native security practices.
* Excellent Communication & Collaboration - Ability to engage with open source communities, drive consensus, and write clear technical documentation.
* Self-Directed & Impact-Driven - Ability to work independently, take initiative, and drive meaningful contributions in a fast-paced, minimal-bureaucracy environment.
