**Summary:**
The Reality Labs Research team working on optics and photonics research for display systems is looking for a Software Engineering Manager to join us and help bring cutting-edge augmented and mixed reality experiences to life. We are looking for a technical and people leader who has experience with one or more of the following: 3D graphics rendering, game engines, AR/MR/VR, computer vision, and optical physics.In this role, you will lead and develop a team of software and firmware engineers working on research prototypes, simulations, and other software contributing to and accelerating research on future generations of AR and MR optics and display systems. Skillsets on the team include 3D rendering, distributed rendering, device prototyping, computer vision, generative machine learning, and optical and vision science. You will collaborate and contribute at a technical level and guide team members as well as vendors and contractors. You will be responsible for partnering with research scientists, mechanical and electrical engineers, and designers to shape research engineering direction. You will set the software team’s roadmap. We are looking for someone with proven experience dealing with ambiguity, who exhibits a sense of ownership and enjoys an open, direct, and empathetic environment. We have many technical problems that need solutions, and we depend on people who are experienced in embracing a creative, thoughtful approach to both short and long-term problem solving.
**Required Skills:**
Software Engineering Manager, Reality Labs Research Engineering Responsibilities:
1. Lead software and firmware engineering and provide leadership and guidance to your team members.
2. Collaborate in a team environment across multiple product focused, research, and engineering disciplines, making the architectural tradeoffs required to rapidly deliver software solutions and prototypes.
3. Understand, develop, and implement software for AR and MR prototypes and simulation environments.
4. Build and run software development processes that allow for rapid development and experimentation while maintaining a high quality bar.
5. Manage project meetings, schedules, milestones and delivery, including managing vendors and manufacturing partners to achieve teams goals.
6. Actively influence the strategy and roadmap for software development that enables and accelerates optics and photonics research efforts. Set technical vision for the team together with input from and in collaboration with other engineering leaders.
7. Deepen your team’s skills, develop individuals’ careers, and ensure the continued success of the team.
**Minimum Qualifications:**

8. BS/MS in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent experience.
9. 3+ years of software engineering management experience and 10+ years of experience with software development.
10. Proven track record in building and developing a team of engineers.
11. Experience with one or more of the following: 3D graphics rendering (Vulkan, Direct3D, Metal, or lower level APIs), game engines (Unity or Unreal), AR/MR/VR development, or computer vision.
12. 5+ years of experience with modern C++ (C++11 or later).

**Public Compensation:**
$177,000/year to $251,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
