Join us on our journey to #ForeverCaring as a Senior Scientist – Microbiology, and you’ll do the same. **About the role:** As part of Convatec’s Applied Research organization within the Biomedical Sciences team, the Senior Scientist, Microbiology is responsible for execution of research projects requiring deep expertise in microbiology. From a technical standpoint, the Senior Scientist will apply subject matter expertise in microbiology to perform and help design the technical approach to assigned projects, analyze data, reflect on results, and re-direct experimentation as needed. They will work cross-functionally with other groups such as Applied Research teams, Project Management, Marketing, Medical/Clinical, to ensure priorities, goals, deliverables, collaborative needs, and timelines are consistently aligned. **How we will measure your success:** + (a) effectively supports cross-functional microbiology research programs as well as + (b) completion of technical reports that have either actionable findings or advanced understanding of scientific phenomena that support business goals. **Your key duties and responsibilities:** + Apply scientific first principles to develop the execute and lead testing required for microbiology research programs in areas such as antimicrobials, mechanisms of infection, microbiome interactions, biofilms dynamics, and the like. + Design and conduct the hands-on research for projects in these programs, including preparing samples, executing experiments, troubleshooting, recording all data and conducting data analysis. + Utilize expertise in microbiology, as well as scientific creativity, to design new protocols that support project goals and enhance microbiology research capabilities. + Write, edit, and/or approve technical documentation. + Communicate effectively to expert and non-expert audience in the form of presentations and reports. + Effectively collaborate with Global Laboratory Services, R&D, project management, manufacturing, process engineering etc. teams, ensuring the Microbiology Applied Research team is aligned on key goals, deliverables, resource needs, timelines etc. + Maintain and strengthen the relationship with Microbiology Global Laboratories Services, ensuring respectful use of the Microbiology laboratory, including excellent GLP/GDP and that compliance processes are followed to a high standard (if required). + Promote teamwork within and across departments, sharing experiences and best practices. + Recommend investments in technology, equipment, systems, or other assets that will enhance research capabilities. **Skills & Experience:** + At least 5 years of experience (post-graduation) of Med Device/Pharmaceutical laboratory experience with increasing responsibilities. + Comprehensive knowledge of microbiological techniques including aseptic techniques, microbial culturing, and growth monitoring. + Strong background and hands-on experience in microbiology with a breadth and depth of scientific experience in designing in-vitro testing such antimicrobial assays and biofilm models etc. + Ability to demonstrate a high level of creativity and independence in areas of assigned responsibility and has good command of the relevant scientific and technical literature. + Demonstrates excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to interpret data from a variety of sources. + Excellent verbal/written communication skills and the ability to work well in cross functional teams. + Ability to collaborate effectively to troubleshoot issues, identify solutions and optimize strategies for implementation. + Microsoft Office skills are essential. + Working knowledge and understanding of compliance with FDA and European regulations relating to Quality Systems (ISO13485:2016, FDA 21 CFR part 820) and GMP Guidelines and Regulation. + Demonstrate ability to time manage multiple projects effectively and efficiently and adapt to changing priorities as required. **Qualifications/Education:** + PhD/MSc in Microbiology or a related scientific field. **Travel Requirements:** + The position may involve occasional travel up to 10% of the time.
