Job Description

AECOM is seeking an industry leading Senior Civil - MEP Construction Inspector to join the SWIFT Program Management Team overseeing the delivery of a $0.5 Billion managed aquifer recharge project in Newport News, Virginia.  The qualified applicant will have extensive construction industry experience overseeing construction of large water/wastewater/water reuse projects in a collaborative project delivery platform.  The Ideal candidate will have the primary responsibility for monitoring and observing the quality of construction for compliance with the construction documents.  On-site work activities will include excavation, soil disposal, dewatering, relocation of buried utilities, installation of pile foundations, concrete work, and installation of mechanical, electrical, and control systems.

The successful candidate will be expected to be collaborative, have a high level of initiative and motivation to deliver quality results, have strong problem-solving skills and a demonstrated ability to provide value-added solutions and maintain strong relationships.

Summary

Ideal candidate will assist in the administration of the James River project throughout construction phase and will be responsible to:

Provide inspection for surveillance of Civil and MEP work during construction, evaluating workmanship and monitoring daily for compliance with the construction contract documents.Record construction progress though diaries, daily reports, photographs, telephone conversation logs,Assist the Owners Site Representative in validating work performed in addition to meeting with the contractors on a monthly basis to determine percent completion.Monitor and track ongoing field activity and providing monthly schedule updates.Provide recommendations through schedule analysis of options for mitigating delaysObserve and report on planned critical path activities not occurring.Assist in documenting schedule conflicts, delays and work disruptions that impact the schedule completion dates. Track and document unplanned field construction activities.Observe that non-conformance work is being corrected in accordance with written and approved instructions.Review monthly schedule narrative for accuracyDetermine that installed work is in accordance with approved submittals.Advise the Owners Site Representative of issues and resolution options available with minimal time or cost impacts.Participate in internal staff meetings and weekly contractor progress meetings.Record delivered materials comply with approved submittals.Observe and record Contractor’s testing and QA/QC activities.Observe implementation of health and safety procedures and practices.Provide input to documentation for area and equipment turnovers.Support development of accident reporting and other documentation.Participate in punch lists, testing, and commissioning.Participate in final inspection and prepare a written certification documenting the conformance of the completed construction contracts to the approved contract drawings, specifications, addenda and change orders.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

High School plus 8+ years or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.10 years of experience on heavy site/civil water/wastewater treatment plant construction site.Valid Driver’s License and as a condition of employment able to pass AECOM's motor vehicle records review.NACE 3 Certification.

Preferred Qualifications 

A.A.S. Degree in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, or Construction Management.Over 20 years of heavy infrastructure construction experience with projects valued over $100 million.Large water/wastewater construction experience on projects with values over $100 million.Design-Build water/wastewater experience.Proficiency in WORD, EXCEL, and SharePoint, in addition to any other Document Control Systems.Experience as either member of Owners Advisor or Construction Management team.Senior Inspection Role overseeing civil and complex MEP work.
