We are seeking a talented individual to join our Career Practice at Mercer, based in New York (preferred), Boston, or Chicago. This is a hybrid role that requires working at least three days a week in the office.
The Career Practice within Mercer covers a range of service and product areas, including Workforce and Executive Compensation, Workforce Transformation and Skills, HR Digital Transformation, Workforce Strategy & Analytics, and Strategic Change and Communications.
The Principal Consultant – Workforce Transformation will sell and deliver consulting services covering key areas, including driving strategic change initiatives, redesigning work processes, and enhancing workforce experiences for clients.
We will count on you to:
Lead business development and serve as the lead consultant for engagements covering Job Architecture, Organization Design, Work Design, Skills, and Workforce Transformation.
Guide clients in navigating the future of work through business process analysis, skills mapping, and recommendations for reskilling or upskilling.
Diagnose workforce problems and shape effective solutions.
Shape proposals and solutions tailored to client needs while identifying upselling and cross-selling opportunities.
Manage client engagement, stakeholder relationships, reporting, and meetings.
Ensure timely and high-quality project delivery.
Collaborate with senior team members on business development and solution shaping.
Independently prepare client reports and presentations, drafting initial recommendations for senior review.
Supervise and coach junior consultants, fostering constructive team discussions.
What you need to have:
Significant business development experience with a proven ability to meet personal sales goals of $2.5M+.
8+ years of consulting delivery experience with large organizations.
A track record of managing complex client engagements focused on work process redesign and workforce enhancement.
Experience in job architecture design and skills strategy consulting is highly beneficial.
What makes you stand out:
Proven experience within a large consulting firm (sales exceeding $20M) selling workforce transformation or organizational development services to mid-large organizations.
Relevant senior in-house expertise in a global organization, with some consulting experience required.
Exceptional relationship-building skills with executives and their teams.

Marsh McLennan is committed to hybrid work, which includes the flexibility of working remotely and the collaboration, connections and professional development benefits of working together in the office. All Marsh McLennan colleagues are expected to be in their local office or working onsite with clients at least three days per week. Office-based teams will identify at least one “anchor day” per week on which their full team will be together in person.
The applicable base salary range for this role is $165,500 to $331,000.
The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
