What You Can Expect
Full-time Microbiology laboratory position responsible for all areas of clinical laboratory testing including pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic. The position will reside within the Division's CLIA laboratory, CD Laboratories in Towson, MD. Techniques that will be performed in this position include microbiology and ELISA testing. The successful candidate will be able to work independently with minimal supervision. Must have meticulous work habits, and be highly motivated, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize multiple projects. Maintain a calm and positive attitude even when dealing with difficult situations. Continually looks for ways to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs.
How You'll Create Impact Receive specimens into the lab and verify adequacy for testingLabel all specimens with barcodes after entry into the LISPerform all necessary processing steps to prepare specimens for testing, i.e., centrifugation, mixing, plating of culture specimens, etc.Perform Gram stain and Culture Workup according to SOPM. Operate and maintain automated equipment i.e. Vitek II, BacT Alert.Maintain quality assurance logs to document inadequate or missing specimensPerform and document all required instrument maintenance and calibrations as neededPerform and document all required quality control. Assure that testing is not performed until acceptable results are obtainedAssist with training and supervision of new employees and lab assistants in all technical areasParticipate in and document annual continuing educationPerform all testing according to SOPMEnter test results into LIS and verify that results are being entered via the electronic instrument-LIS interfaceReview and release all test results.
