Job Description

This role is located on-site in Sanford, NC.

Support clients Manufacturing Scientist and Technology Fermentation Group by supporting microbial organisms growth through fermentation and necessary recovery steps to isolate the bacterial products from fermentation brothExecution of lab processes or pilot-scale using various scale platforms (250 mL to 150 L), process development and characterization, scale-up and tech transfer to commercial manufacturing, process simulation and modeling, process troubleshooting, qualification of alternate raw materials and components, new technology development, etcPreparation of fermentation/ cell culture medium, buffer solutions, consumable materials, etc. as needed to support experiment executionUtilizing technical knowledge to identify, troubleshoot, and assist with resolution of process problemsDocument experiment execution using an electronic lab notebook, batch record, and/or protocolsOrganize technical data and provide oral presentations or technical reports to communicate results, as requiredPrioritize and organize work to meet project deadlines and support team goalsWork on second or third shift to support fermentation operations may be required on a frequent basisDue to close work with specific bacterial strains, the following vaccinations will be offered by the company:Blood Borne Pathogens (Hep B)(Pneumovax 23)(Menactra)(Tdap)

QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry or other science related degree concentrationA minimum of 2 years of industry experience is requiredDirect fermentation product recovery (centrifugation, Ultrafiltration, Depth and Sterile Filtration) and extraction experience (Homogenization, pH titrations)Experience with fermenters at small scale or Pilot Scale in an industry-based setting is requiredExperience with operating and monitoring of fermentation equipment, centrifugation and performing sterile technique is requiredExperience with accurate pipetting and performing serial dilutions is requiredStrong computer, scientific, and organizational skillsValid driver’s license and personal transportationAuthorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship

Additional Information

Position is full-time, Monday- Friday 8:00-5:00pm with overtime as needed. Candidates currently living within a commutable distance of Sanford, NC are encouraged to apply.
