Overview

The Corporate Sustainability team oversees Mastercard’s impact strategy. In partnership with Mastercard’s businesses, risk functions and operational teams, the Sustainability team drives the company’s governance and reporting of environmental, social and governance matters; sustainability strategy and business integration; and stakeholder engagement including community impact and volunteerism.

The Corporate Sustainability organization is looking for a Director of Sustainability to develop and drive Mastercard’s cross-organizational initiatives in sustainable consumption, carbon credits and other strategic areas of impact. The Director, Sustainability, will report to the Vice President for Sustainability and work alongside team members and a diverse set of internal and external stakeholders to drive progress against sustainability objectives, create business and customer value, and advance the company’s reputation as a leader in sustainability.


Role:

•\tWorking closely with the VP of sustainability strategy and other corporate and business unit colleagues, develop and drive a pan-Mastercard sustainability solutions strategy, with a focus on inspiring, informing and enabling consumers and business decision-makers to make more sustainable choices using Mastercard technology and data.
•\tPartner with business stakeholders to align and advance the development and delivery of new sustainability use cases, opportunities and solutions into the strategy, providing subject matter expertise and coordinating efforts for cross-leverage, visibility and impact.
•\tOversee the development and implementation of Mastercard’s corporate carbon credit strategy and program in partnership with internal teams to help meet Mastercard climate and nature-based commitments; collaboratively develop and drive governance processes to meet program objectives, protect and advance corporate reputation, and ensure compliance with reporting and regulatory requirements.
•\tEstablish and drive relevant regulatory and standards tracking and reporting with an emphasis in product data transparency/digital product passport, urban mobility, carbon credits, and circularity; engage and support businesses and government affairs on targeted policy assessment, positioning and advocacy as relevant.
•\tCultivate and lead strategic external collaborations and leverage partner relationships and member organizations to advance strategy and enable internal business partners to do likewise.
•\tRepresent Mastercard in key sustainability, carbon credit and policy organizations; identify, recommend and apply best practices to drive continuous improvement to program function and outcomes.

All about You:

•\tSignificant experience in corporate sustainability in an international environment, preferably in the digital payments industry.
•\tStrong, demonstrated business acumen developing and executing customer-facing (B2B and/or B2C) sustainability initiatives, solutions and partnerships and defining and driving business-linked sustainability objectives and KPIs.
•\tFamiliarity or experience preferred in one or more of the following: consumer-facing circular economy initiatives; product carbon foot printing or labelling; climate finance; voluntary carbon markets, including standards, project development, sourcing and selection and other aspects of corporate carbon credit programs.
•\tDemonstrated ability to navigate and influence within a matrixed organizational structure, effectively leading and collaborating with cross-functional teams and partners to drive initiatives forward and achieve results.
•\tStrong project management skills and experience, accreditation such as PMP, PMI or similar preferred.
•\tExceptional problem-solving and analytical skills; ability to frame new, ambiguous and complex issues, generate insight through rigorous analysis and demonstrate thought leadership.
•\tExcellence in verbal and written communication skills; clear, succinct, and tailored to audience. Proficiency with preparing and presenting briefings to executive audiences.
•\tDemonstrated ability to prioritize and effectively, manage multi-faceted work and meet project deadlines and in a fast-paced, dynamic, global business environment.
•\tSelf-motivated and able to work independently as well as on teams.
•\tMaster’s Degree in environmental management, business administration, sustainability studies or a related field.
