Position TitleDirector, Collections (PB)Southlake CampusPosition Summary / Career Interest:The Director, Collections (PB) is responsible for efficient, effective oversight of collections for professional billing across the enterprise. The Director, Collections (PB) works to create a seamless patient experience by prioritizing efficient interactions between front-end and back-end operations and minimizing team-to-team hand-offs. The Director, Collections (PB) collaborates with key stakeholders to continuously improve people, processes, and technology within the collections function. This includes developing and implementing strategies to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the accounts receivable follow-up process, leading and mentoring the collections team, engaging effectively with payors for timely account resolution, and utilizing data analytics to drive performance improvements. The Director, Collections (PB) also leads the Revenue Cycle Steering Committee with University of Kansas Physicians, and is accountable for timely PB A/R reporting and denials resolution.Responsibilities and Essential Job FunctionsActively contributes to the strategic direction for Patient Financial Services and collaborates with direct reports to drive alignment
Responsible for support, leadership and guidance to Collections (PB) team
Responsible for hiring, disciplinary actions and performance evaluations for staff
Responsible for building out succession plan for the Collections (PB) team in collaboration with Senior Director
Participates at a local level as a SME, communicating relevant changes in performance, payor and market trends, health care delivery systems, and legislative initiatives impacting execution of goals to team(s)
Manages the transparent ownership, discrete processes, and clear follow up responsibilities among direct reports
Works to enhance the patient experience, by reducing hand-offs between teams and simplifying customer-facing processes across all enterprise
Analyzes for trends and root causes, and solves complex operational issues (i.e. escalated physician or customer calls, identifies optimizations)
Leads monthly UKP Revenue Cycle Steering Committee meetings
Actively leads financial planning strategies to support a cost-effective Collections Program for professional billing
Manages successful completion of A/R follow-up and denials management for the system
Develops, implements, and validates efficient and effective operational policies, processes, best practices, and technologies
Defines and holds Collections (PB) team accountable to Key Performance Indicators
Monitors the departments’ success by evaluating key financial, budgetary, and other metrics related to Collections (HB) team effectiveness
Manages practice of collections teams for professional billing, including identification and monitoring of team success metrics and activities related to collections
Facilitates projects and conversations with outside health care organizations to share and develop best practices
Recommends and engages with third party vendors where business case for performance exists
Oversees staff volume management, flexing resources across facility-based work queues based on volume demands
Escalates potential risk accounts with high denials and raise to the Revenue Cycle lead as needed
Meets or exceeds standards of compliance for all accreditation and regulatory bodies, commissions, etc. in relation to Collections (PB) team functions
Partners closely with Revenue Cycle Operational Effectiveness team to implement billing efficiencies and automation opportunities, as identified Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and ExperienceBachelors Degree in related field from an accredited college or university Designated Epic training to be completed within 6 months of hire. 8 or more years of experience in healthcare revenue cycle operations 6 or more years of integrated experience in revenue cycle multi-disciplinary projects 5 or more years of experience in a leadership role with professional level employees Ability to work on-site regularly with telecommuting flexibility
Preferred Education and ExperienceMaster's Degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or a closely related field of study from an accredited college or university 10 or more years of experience in healthcare revenue cycle operations 7 or more years of integrated experience in revenue cycle multi-disciplinary projects 6 or more years of experience in a leadership role with professional level employees
Preferred Language SkillsFluent Spanish - preferred.
Knowledge RequirementsDemonstrates competency and leadership experience in a large, complex organization with multiple locations Strong operational management and process/technology optimization skills Excellent personnel management and organizational management skills – including written and oral communication, relationship management, customer service, and organization Displays commitment to treating both internal and external constituents as clients and customers, maintaining a flexible customer service approach and orientation that emphasizes service satisfaction and quality Exhibits knowledge of healthcare management, registration, billing and collection processes for government, grant, and non-government funding sources Ability to make multiplex decisions for the betterment of the organization. Create and manage respectful and impactful relationships with internal and external stakeholders Experience and passion towards mentoring team members and establishing succession plans for departments. Ability to execute on those succession plans. Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint. Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.
