We are seeking a highly skilled Data Platform Engineer with deep expertise in AWS cloud infrastructure, High performance computing (HPC) and network architecture to support our scientific research activities in North America. The ideal candidate will have strong proficiency in cloud-based system operations, including orchestration, automation, and network security, with a focus on supporting scientific computing workloads. This role involves direct engagement with R&D and business stakeholders, collaborating to understand scientific needs, and designing tailored, scalable, and secure infrastructure solutions. The candidate should be adept at managing both cloud-native and hybrid environments, troubleshooting complex networking issues, and optimizing cloud-based scientific workflows.

Main Responsibilities:
o Lead and support meetings with researchers and R&D teams, helping deploy, scale, and troubleshoot cloud-based applications for computational workloads related to scientific research activities.
o Act as a key point of contact for business and scientific users, translating technical concepts into business-relevant outcomes and vice versa.
o Prepare and conduct meetings autonomously with cross-functional stakeholders, capturing requirements, aligning priorities, and presenting progress in a clear and structured manner.
o Manage and secure AWS cloud environments (VPC, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, Route 53) and its integration to the Sanofi environment (Zscaler/firewalls) .
o Implement and troubleshoot network architectures, ensuring high availability, low latency, and security compliance across cloud-based and hybrid infrastructures.
o Automate infrastructure deployment and management using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or CDK.
o Develop and manage Kubernetes clusters and containerized workflows to facilitate scientific computing workloads.
o Implement CI/CD pipelines for automating infrastructure updates and application deployments, ensuring minimal downtime.
o Monitor, optimize, and troubleshoot cloud and hybrid environments, ensuring efficient resource utilization and cost-effectiveness.
o Manage access control policies ensuring compliance with security best practices.
o Support hybrid connectivity, and routing configurations across cloud and on-prem environments.
o Assist researchers in deploying, scaling, and troubleshooting cloud-based applications for computational workloads through HPC schedulers.
o Stay updated with the latest advancements in cloud networking, security, and DevOps methodologies, recommending improvements to optimize research infrastructure.
About You
Required Skills and Experience:
o Extensive experience managing cloud infrastructure, particularly in AWS (EC2, VPC, FSx for Lustre, EKS, Lambda, RDS, DynamoDB, S3, CloudFront, etc.).
o Strong understanding of networking concepts, including subnetting, routing, NAT, VPNs, Transit Gateway, BGP, DNS, load balancing, and firewall rule management.
o Expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, such as Terraform (preferred), CloudFormation, CDK.
o Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
o Experience with working with Schedulers (Slurm, PBS, Grid Engine…) and applications wrappers
o Strong automation and scripting skills in Python, Bash for infrastructure and operational tasks.
o Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, AWS CodePipeline, Jenkins, ArgoCD, etc.).
o Knowledge of identity and access management (IAM, SSO, MFA…) for securing cloud environments.
o Experience in monitoring and logging tools such as CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog.
o Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot networking and infrastructure issues across complex environments.
o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to engage directly with researchers and business stakeholders, lead meetings independently, and translate complex technical topics into clear actionable insights.
o Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Information Systems or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
o AWS Certified Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, or Advanced Networking Specialty certifications.
o Experience with other cloud platforms (Google Cloud, Azure).
o Familiarity with zero-trust security models and cloud-native security best practices.
o Experience with scientific computing and R&D workflows (Cellranger, Nextflow, R/RStudio.
o Hands-on experience with policy-as-code tools (HashiCorp).

The salary range for this position is:
$108,900.00 - $157,300.00
