AWS Software Development Manager

The top candidate will lead a software development team in the AWS Health organization in Cape Town, owning one or more critical services that help AWS customers keep their workloads/applications up and running on AWS, and resolve issues when they occur. As the leader of the team, the individual will be responsible for setting a high operational bar, driving high availability and scalability of the service, and hiring and developing the best engineers to deliver features that delight customers. The candidate will have significant leadership responsibility to define the team's vision and goals, engage closely with stakeholders and customers, and manage delivery.


Key job responsibilities
- Hire, motivate, mentor, and grow a high-performing engineering team, providing them with appropriate opportunities to succeed in their career objectives.

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams: Work effectively with product managers and software engineers on other service teams to ensure the successful delivery of features.

- Lead engineering team in executing against project plans, and delivery commitments.

- Delivery of high-quality, scalable software on-time and on-budget.

- Work closely with the leadership team to provide input on annual, roadmaps, and strategic discussions.

- Be deeply involved with engineers to architect and develop the best technical designs and approaches.

- Build operational excellence to reduce lead times and maintain the operations of critical services.

- Clearly communicate technical decisions and progress to both technical and non-technical audiences.

- Conduct performance reviews of team members.

- Translate business, functional, and technical requirements into detailed project plans.

The AWS Global Support team interacts with leading companies and believes that world-class support is critical to customer success. AWS Support also partners with a global list of customers that are building mission-critical applications on top of AWS services.
