World Leader in Blood Glucose Monitoring, Abbott's Diabetes Care business designs, develops and manufactures glucose monitoring systems for use in both home and hospital settings.
We have a Centre of Excellence in Witney for the manufacture of electrodes and biosensors used by patients and healthcare professionals for the day-to-day management of diabetes. The Operations group is the largest team in the Witney facility, producing high volumes of test strips and biosensors each year to the stringent quality standards demanded by European and US authorities and our internal quality systems.
As a result of strong business growth, industry-leading product development in the biosensor business and a long-term commitment to high volume manufacturing in our Witney Centre of Excellence, we have an opportunity for an Associate Engineer to join our Operations Group focusing on PLC Control Systems, and working within the biosensor manufacturing area of the business.
The role of the Associate Engineer (Control Systems) is to provide support and assistance with Engineering and Systems projects and other activities, with a focus on Automation systems. Work could include running trials on manufacturing equipment, creating code, collecting and analysing data and writing reports. All documentation must be completed in compliance with site, Corporate and external regulatory requirements.
Continuous Improvement is an important part of our site’s culture and as such, you will be heavily involved in proposing and contributing to initiatives and projects that improve our operations. You will be able to devise, plan, carry out and report on experiments and other data collection, leading to the progression of engineering projects, and offer a flexible approach to work to provide assistance with the wider Engineering projects as and when required.
You will need to have completed a HNC or HND in a science, engineering or computing field, as a minimum, and ideally bring engineering/technical experience, for example understanding databases, technical drawings, problem solving, use of CAD systems, designing tests and experiments. You will be PC literate, and ideally offer experience of managing projects either through industry experience of academic studies. Over time, Abbott will support your development in Vision Systems expertise, and we would therefore welcome applications from people keen to develop this specialist skill set.
This is a fantastic opportunity to become a valued member of a highly skilled Engineering team working with brand new state-of-the-art automation in a fast growing area of our business. Engineering skill is key to us, with members working in areas including projects, process, production, systems, software, R&D and machine vision. We also have our own fully equipped workshop.
Abbott offers a benefits platform that provides security to you and your family. As you’d expect from an innovative global health care company, we offer a competitive range of benefits including excellent salaries, a class-leading defined contribution pension scheme, private healthcare, life assurance, subsidized canteen and a flexible benefits scheme. Here at Witney, we also like to help our employees live life to the fullest, and therefore we offer a range of optional initiatives for you to get involved in, including local community STEM outreach, couch to 5k campaigns, yoga and more!
YOUR OWN RIGHT TO WORK IN THE UK
We welcome applications from candidates already eligible to work in the UK or those that can apply for a visa granting permission to work in the UK (e.g. dependent visas, ancestry etc.) that do not require sponsorship from Abbott. You will be asked to share proof of this prior to receiving any offer of employment. We would like to make you aware that if you are made an offer of employment with Abbott you will need to remain on your current visa / permit. If for any reason your visa status changes, we will be unable to offer you sponsorship in the future. In addition, the Company would not fund any subsequent non sponsored visa applications - you will be solely responsible for paying and maintaining your own right to work in the UK. In some instances we may not be able to offer you a permanent contract.
Any employment offer made by Abbott is contingent upon you obtaining and maintaining the right to work and reside legally in the UK. You are required to notify us immediately if your immigration status changes after you have submitted your application.
GRADUATES BASED IN THE UK
If you are on a Graduate visa, we cannot guarantee you sponsorship from within the UK upon its expiry. Abbott only has a set number of Certificate of Sponsorship applications that can be made each year, which are utilized for highly skilled workers transferring internally. If this limit is reached and other Home Office requirements cannot be met, it will prevent us from being able to sponsor and therefore employ you, unless you are able to secure your own right to work in the UK following the expiry of a Graduate visa.
